Week 41: Ratings Overview.

October 13, 2013

Ratings – in the end a format is only as good as its ratings proves. Of course, there are countless excuses and turns possible to improve the story surrounding the hard numbers, but still. When you have good ratings, your show will be much more valuable and interesting. Since there are a couple of programs always performing well, I will make a top 5 of best scoring formats on prime-time, excluding news broadcasts, soap-opera GTST and sport events.

Sunday
1. Hunt for Millions – 1.888.000 (24,4%) – RTL4 – (#3)
2. De Reunie – 1.683.000 (21,2%) – NED1 – (#4)
3. One vs 100 – 1.643.000 (21,2%) – NED1 – (#5)
4. Man Met De Hamer – 1.319.000 (19,0%) – RTL4 – (#6)
5. Penoza 3 (Red Widow) – 953.000 (11,9%) – NED3 (#11)
Ranking – title (english when possible) – absolute numbers in 6+ (marketshare in 6+) – channel – # on overall top 25 ranking

Hunt for Millions returned – in a new, earlier slot (20.00) and for one time only hosted by Winston -, but still managed to take the number 1 spot in prime-time. NED1 very constant behind, and both drama series completing the top 5. When compared to the early weeks of the new season, SBS6 lost almost half its viewers over the evening. Tonight is Linda hosting the 2nd episode, and I expect it will tip over the 2 million mark.

Monday
1. Spoorloos – 2.070.000 (28,8%) – NED1 – #1
2. Radar – 1.601.000 (23,2%) – NED1 – #3
3. Family Dinner – 1.344.000 (22,3%) – NED1 – #5
4. Under The Dome – 1.110.000 (15,7%) – SBS6 – #8
5. CSI – 923.000 (13,1%) – RTL4 – #13

The top 3 hasn’t changed in years, but the number 4 is very surprising. Premiering one of the most successful series in the US last season, SBS6 managed to score over a million on a Monday. That hasn’t happened in ages. Very surprising, since RTL has always been very strong with their series and it must give SBS a huge boost that they can manage to get a big audience. However, Under The Dome mostly gained its viewers from younger skewed channels RTL5 and NED3. New datingshow Eilandgasten on NET5 wasn’t able to get a big audience, and stayed far behind its lead-in ‘Doris’.

Tuesday
1. Dubbeltje op zijn kant – 1.489.000 (23,6%) – RTL4 – #3
2. Uitstel van Executie – 1.438.000 (21,4%) – RTL4 – #4
3. Rijdende Rechter – 1.275.000 (22,4%) – NED1 – #5
4. Worst Driver of NL – 1.151.000 (17,2%) – NED1 – #8
5. Opsporing Verzocht (Wanted) – 795.000 (12,6%) – NED1 – #14

No football, so the same top 5 for the last weeks, but with higher shares and numbers for each.

Wednesday
1. DNA Unknown – 1.344.000 (19,1%) – NED1 – #4
2. Dokter Tinus (Doc Martin) – 1.283.000 (18,2%) – SBS6 – #5
3. Waar is de Mol – 1.249.000 (18,9%) – SBS6 – #6
4. Love is in the Air – 1.181.000 (16,8%) – RTL4 – #8
5. Derek Ogilvie – 732.000 (11,2%) – RTL4 – #16

No football here as well, however, Love is in the Air went from #1 to #4. Waar is de Mol had a record breaking final seasond and a record for the very last episode as well. Great numbers to conclude the series.

Thursday
1. Celebrities on Welfare – 1.909.000 (27,5%) – RTL4 – #1
2. Syndroom – 1.612.000 (25,4%) – RTL4 – #3
3. Expeditie Robinson (Survivor) – 1.213.000 (17,6%) – RTL5 – #6
4. 2 voor 12 – 997.000 (14,4%) – NED2 – #9
5. Africa – 854.000 (12,3%) – NED1 – #11

RTL4 rules the Thursdays with their new programming and it will probably stay the same for the next weeks. Africa replaced ‘Operatie NL Fit’ and managed to deliver reasonable numbers, especially since you have to consider it was a repeat. Survivor stays very strong in its numbers this season.

Friday
1. The Voice of Holland – 2.621.000 (35,7%) – RTL4 – #1
2. Witse – 892.000 (12,0%) – NED1 – #11
3. Kanniewaarzijn – 785.000 (12,0%) – NED1 – #14
4. Lingo – 687.000 (14,6%) – NED1 – #19
5. College Tour – 629.000 (8,5%) – NED3 – #20

Although SBS took 1.8 million viewers for the international game of Holland, The Voice only gave away 6% market share and still was able to stay strong in their performance. Especially NED1 was hurt with the football match.

Saturday
1. I Love My Country – 2.156.000 (31,6%) – RTL4 – #1
2. Who Am I – 1.506.000 (23,5%) – RTL4 – #3
3. Ik Vertrek – 1.475.000 (21,4%) – NED1- #4
4. Mock The Week – 1.354.000 (23,5%) – RTL4 – #5
5. Vive La Frans – 1.152.000 (17,3%) – NED1 – #6

I Love My Country has hit the 2 million and will stay there for the last episodes as well. There won’t be changing a lot until programming changes in two weeks.
