Week 42: Ratings Overview.

October 20, 2013

Ratings – in the end a format is only as good as its ratings proves. Of course, there are countless excuses and turns possible to improve the story surrounding the hard numbers, but still. When you have good ratings, your show will be much more valuable and interesting. Since there are a couple of programs always performing well, I will make a top 5 of best scoring formats on prime-time, excluding news broadcasts, soap-opera GTST and sport events.

Sunday
1. Hunt for Millions – 2.118.000 (26,1%) – RTL4 – (#2)
2. De Reunie – 1.663.000 (21,2%) – NED1 – (#3)
3. Man Met De Hamer – 1.251.000 (17,4%) – RTL4 – (#7)
4. Undercover in Nederland – 1.142.000 (15,4%) – SBS6 – (#9)
5. Penoza 3 (Red Widow) – 951.000 (11,4%) – NED3 (#11)
Ranking – title (English when possible) – absolute numbers in 6+ (marketshare in 6+) – channel – # on overall top 25 ranking

Hunt For Millions went through the roof with the return of Linda, and will be dominating the next Sundays and keep the audience rate also strong for the drama series Man Met De Hamer. Penoza has also build its audience base, however SBS6 got a decent increase with the return of the factual investigation series Undercover.

Monday
1. Spoorloos – 2.102.000 (30,0%) – NED1 – #1
2. Radar – 1.670.000 (23,2%) – NED1 – #3
3. Family Dinner – 1.486.000 (25,2%) – NED1 – #6
4. CSI – 997.000 (13,8%) – RTL4 – #12
5. Under The Dome – 853.000 (12,4%) – SBS6 – #14

Strong night for NED1 as always on Monday. Under The Dome lost a big share of its premiere audience, dipping far below the 1 million. RTL5 is losing a bit of its audience, but Next Top Model still has very decent run, with the live final tomorrow night. Also picking up in numbers is the adventure reality Atlas on NED3.

Tuesday
1. Rijdende Rechter – 1.528.000 (26,5%) – NED1 – #3
2. Dubbeltje op zijn kant – 1.270.000 (18,8%) – RTL4 – #5
3. Uitstel van Executie – 1.245.000 (17,6%) – RTL4 – #6
4. Opsporing Verzocht (Wanted) – 1.055.000 (15,3%) – NED1 – #11
5. Opgelicht – 965.000 (13,7%) – NED1 – #13

NED1 performed well again, while the RTL4 shows did lose a bit, while SBS got very big numbers with the international match of the Dutch football team.

Wednesday
1. Love is in the Air – 1.433.000 (20,3%) – RTL4 – #2
2. Tussen Kunst & Kitsch – 1.297.000 (18,5%) – NED1 – #5
3. Dokter Tinus (Doc Martin) – 1.214.000 (17,2%) – SBS6 – #7
4. Waar is de Mol – 1.036.000 (15,3%) – SBS6 – #10
5. Derek Ogilvie – 818.000 (12,1%) – RTL4 – #16

With DNA Unknown out of the way, Love is in the Air got back to the number 1 spot. Waar is de Mol is continuing the strong performance, even though it are repeats from earlier seasons.

Thursday
1. Celebrities on Welfare – 2.119.000 (28,4%) – RTL4 – #1
2. Syndroom – 1.864.000 (27,6%) – RTL4 – #2
3. Expeditie Robinson (Survivor) – 1.296.000 (17,5%) – RTL5 – #5
4. 2 voor 12 – 991.000 (13,2%) – NED2 – #10
5. Africa – 829.000 (11,1%) – NED1 – #15

An unbelievable strong night for RTL, sweeping the competition away from 20u to 22.30, with two channels. Still remarkable, that NED1 always is doing well, except for this night. Africa, the nature series, does okay, but Liefs Uit.. (Love From) can’t get a really strong run.

Friday
1. The Voice of Holland – 2.574.000 (35,4%) – RTL4 – #1
2. Gouden Televizierring Gala – 1.687.000 (23,1%) – NED1 – #2
3. Kanniewaarzijn – 1.284.000 (21,0%) – NED1 – #6
4. Lingo – 655.000 (14,8%) – NED1 – #16
5. Met Het Mes Op Tafel – 576.000 (8,3%) – NED2 – #21

The Voice has reached the next stage with The Battles, normally a little drop, but this time not yet. The award gala on NED1 did very well.

Saturday
1. I Love My Country – 2.063.000 (28,4%) – RTL4 – #1
2. Who Am I – 1.535.000 (23,0%) – RTL4 – #4
3. Ik Vertrek – 1.375.000 (18,8%) – NED1- #5
4. Volgende Week – 1.036.000 (16,2%) – RTL4 – #10
5. De Prooi – 948.000 (13,6%) – NED2 – #11

Last episode in the series for ILMC, closing well, same for Who Am I. Both will definitely return next fall, although Who Am i might get a quicker return. Volgende Week is a new ‘Have I Got News For You’, not looking back on the news, but looking forward to it. Personally, it was the worst format I have seen in ages, but I will give it another shot next week, although I think it will drop in numbers a lot. De Prooi is a 3 part drama series, telling the story about the biggest financial crisis about the banking industry in Holland (and globally obviously…).

FOX decided to show an Eredivisie match live on their open channel, and got a very decent 588.000 viewers, that might help them a lot. Next week will be very interesting, with SBS6 finally doing some original content and RTL4 returning with Holland Got Talent.
